The 108th (Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry) Field Brigade Royal Artillery (T.A.) will shortly lose one of its most popular oldest serving members - Mr. Fred Sterry, of 37 Kent Road, Lowestoft.

Mr Sterry, who holds the rank of Artificer Staff Sergeant, first enlisted on November 17th, 1899 in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment, and served until the Battalion was disbanded on March 31st, 1908. On June 17th, 1908, he joined the 2nd East was transferred to the Royal Engineers, with that unit in Gallipolli, Egypt and Palestine. He was transferred to the Royal Engineer, with which unit he served in Mesopotania and India, and was also at sea for nine months. He was discharged on demobilisation on May 1st, 1919.

Not being satisfied with a mere 20 years in his country's service, Mr Sterry, on April 28th, 1922, joined the 103rd East Anglian Field Brigade, R.A. (T.A.) He was transferred to the 108th Brigade on November 1st, 1923. He is the proud possessor of the following medals: 1914-15 - Star, British War, Victory, Territorial Efficiency, and Efficiency (Territorial) and clasp.

On his retirement on Tuesday he had spent approximately 35 years in the auxiliary forces. He takes with him the best wishes of all members of the Suffolk and Norfolk Yeomanry for many happy years of life in retirment.
